Namibia, you may be asking where? If you know where, you are probably thinking why? It turns out that Namibia is the perfect vacation for the adventurer that is looking for an exotic getaway off of the beaten path. As a matter of fact it, Namibia was just chosen as the best tourist destination for Finns on Jan 17th!

This amazing tour starts out with a bush plane ride into the centre of the Sossusvlei Wilderness camp which is the gateway to 21,000 hectare of private protected park land. Your adventures start with 4X4 safaris, desert educational walks, dune ascents, sunrise balloon rides. One of the major highlights is where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Skeleton coast providing dramatic contrasts for the tourist.

This may seem like a dry and bleak landscape, however there are fascinating flora and fauna that are resilient to the areas extremes. You can expect encounters with desert rhinos, elephants, flamingos, lions, leopard, cheetah, just to name a few.

This tour offers a once in a life time opportunity to see the resiliency and beauty of nature in one place. This exclusive package is offered through iExplore, for more information go to their website at: http://www.iexplore.com/

It is a myth that the desert elephants in the Namib Desert are bigger than other elephants. The term ‘desert elephants’ has been used by the tourism industry a lot, and to the point that there are now exaggerations about them. The are not a separate species, and in fact the desert elephants once would have formed a continuous population with Etosha.

At the moment, with new concession and community conservation areas opening up, we are once again getting closer to having a continuous conservation area from Etosha to the desert.

The elephants in the desert are very special. The have different behavioral patterns that have been developed that allow them to live in what is truly a hyper arid desert.

    Thanks for the post Vernon,

These elephants must be amazing to adapt to such a harsh environment. It would be a pleasure to see them one day.

    All the best,
    Phil
